Defiance College: Text-to-Give + Social Media Leads to Greater Reach

Defiance College seeks to graduate its students “To Know, To Understand, To Lead, and To Serve,” preparing them to live a life of service to their profession and to others.

As a small private college in northwestern Ohio, Defiance needed a way to make their fundraising campaigns easy and efficient while keeping their own costs low. With their mission to prepare students for life after graduation, engaging them in the digital age was a factor.


Giving to Defiance College is available year-round through iDonate’s online form, but with various events put on throughout the year, Defiance went further to interact with their donors directly, ultimately making the giving experience personal.

Student ambassadors, student-athletes, and young alumni are all a core focus in continuing the college’s mission on and off campus. By using iDonate’s Text-to-Give solution, it has allowed Defiance to engage their students and alumni in the fundraising process. At the same time, Defiance uses social media to create graphics with information on Text-to-Give to reach an entirely different population than usual. Doing so has allowed Defiance to expand their reach and reduce the barriers to making a gift.


On top of the greater interaction, Defiance has seen the convenience of Text-to-Give pay off even more. iDonate allows donors to pick up the tab for fees – Donor Paid Fees – which not only increases the gift, but reduces the cost for the recipient. For Defiance College, there has been a high percentage elect
to pay the fee, creating additional freedom to focus on larger campaigns and events in the future.
