Utilizing Designations

Configure designated funds for donor-directed giving.

Designations allow donors to choose how their contribution will be applied by selecting a specific fund, program, or purpose during the donation process. Properly managing designations helps ensure clarity for donors and accurate internal tracking for your organization.

In the iDonate back-office, open the cogwheel menu and select Designated Funds.

Create a New Designation

  1. Navigate to Settings > Designated Funds.
  2. Click New Designated Fund and fill out the following fields:
    1. Title: The name of the designation as it will appear to donors
    2. Fund ID: A unique internal identifier used for reporting and integrations.
    3. Start/End Date: Optional dates used to limit availability for time-bound initiatives.
    4. Description:Allows you to group related designations together.
    5. Group: Allows you to group related designations together.
    6. Image: An optional image to visually represent the designation. Images must be under 10 MB.
  3. Click Create Designation.

Edit or Archive an Existing Designation

Edit

  1. Navigate to Settings > Designated Funds.
  2. Locate the designation and click the pencil icon.
  3. Update any of the designation fields outlined above.

  4. Click Update.

Archive

If a designation is no longer needed but should be preserved for reporting or historical reference, you can archive it from the designation details page instead of modifying it. Archiving removes the designation from active use while retaining its data.

Archived designations can be restored at any time by selecting Unarchive from the designation details page.

The designations table includes a Hide Archived toggle that allows you to show or hide archived designations, making it easier to manage both active and inactive funds.
