Verifying Your ACH Velocity Limits

How to check Fiserv (BlueChex) transaction thresholds for ACH donations.

Financial institutions and processors often impose velocity limits on Automated Clearing House (ACH) transactions to help manage risk, prevent fraud, and ensure compliance. These limits define the maximum dollar amount or number of transactions that can be processed within a given period. If your organization’s ACH donations exceed these limits, transactions may be declined or delayed.

This article explains how to verify your organization’s Fiserv ACH (BlueChex) velocity limits so you can confirm your current thresholds and avoid unexpected declines or processing issues.

What Are ACH Velocity Limits?

ACH velocity limits are risk controls set by your processor that restrict:

  1. The maximum dollar amount of a single transaction.

  2. The total dollar volume of ACH transactions over a period.

  3. The number of transactions within a given timeframe.

These limits help protect both the processor and the organization from unusual patterns that might indicate fraud, excessive risk, or activity outside normal expectations.

How to Verify Your Fiserv ACH (BlueChex) Velocity Limits

To check your organization’s velocity limits in Fiserv ACH (BlueChex):

  1. Navigate to BlueChex and login.
    1. If you have never accessed BluePay or are unsure of your username or login details, request access through the Merchant Services Support Form.
  2. From the BluePay dashboard, click on your organization’s name.
  3. Locate the field labeled Max ACH Tx Size or similar. This value represents the maximum dollar amount that can be processed in a single ACH/eCheck transaction before it is declined.

Interpreting Your Limits

  1. Max ACH Transaction Size: This is the largest single eCheck donation that can be processed. If a donor attempts to give more than this figure, the transaction will be declined.

  2. Other Potential Limits: Depending on your account, you may also have daily or cumulative limits that apply. These might not be visible in the same interface, in which case you should contact Merchant Services for details.
