How do I add CVV or AVS protection to our donations?

For our organizations that utilize CardConnect, these steps will show you how to add additional protections to credit card donations and avoid a credit card testing attack.

  • The Card Verification Value (CVV or CVV2) is a three- or four-digit number printed on the credit card. It ensures the submitter possesses the physical credit card.

To update these settings:

  1. Navigate to the CardPointe Portal
  2. Select your credit card account from drop down menu
  3. Click "Active" for CVV Validation
  4. Click “Active” for AVS Validation - "Processing Transactions where there is a mismatch on both ZIP and Address will result in an auto-decline. Transactions will also decline if the ..."

Note: This can increase the amount of declines if donors do not input matching CVV or correct address information. Most declines can be rectified by the donor calling their card issuer. However, if your organization is experiencing a large number of declines from multiple donors, please contact us through our Support Request Form.
