Managing Designations
Create, organize, and maintain designated funds for donor-directed giving.
Designations allow donors to choose how their contribution will be applied by selecting a specific fund, program, or purpose during the donation process. Properly managing designations helps ensure clarity for donors and accurate internal tracking for your organization.
Manage Designation Groups
Designation Groups let you organize related designations together, making it easier for donors to find relevant funds and for your team to manage them.
From any tab on the Fundraising page, click Designation Groups in the upper right corner. A modal will appear displaying your existing groups.
- Add a group: Enter a name in the "New group name..." field and click +.
- Edit a group: Click the pencil icon next to the group name, update the name, and confirm.
- Delete a group: Click the trash icon next to the group name.
Deleting a group does not delete the designations assigned to it. Those designations will simply no longer be associated with the deleted group.
Create a New Designation
- Navigate to Fundraising > Designations to view existing Designations.
- To create a new Designation, click + New > Designation and fill out the following fields:
- Title: The name of the designation as it will appear to donors
- Fund ID: A unique internal identifier used for reporting and integrations.
- Start/End Date: Optional dates used to limit availability for time-bound initiatives.
- Description: A summary of the designation's purpose.
- Group: Allows you to group related designations together.

- Image: An optional image to visually represent the designation. Images must be under 10 MB.
- Click Create Designation.
Manage an Existing Designation
Edit
- Navigate to Fundraising > Designations.
- Locate the designation and click the ellipsis menu > Edit.

Update any of the designation fields outlined above.

Click Update Designation.
Activate and Deactivate
Designations can be set to Active or Inactive to control their visibility on live giving forms. Only active designations are displayed to donors during the donation process.
- To deactivate an active designation, click the ellipsis menu > Deactivate. The designation will be set to Inactive and will no longer appear to donors.
- To reactivate an inactive designation, click the ellipsis menu > Activate. The designation will be restored and will appear on live giving forms.
Archive
If a designation is no longer needed but should be preserved for reporting or historical reference, you can archive it instead of modifying it. Archiving removes the designation from active use while retaining its data.
- Navigate to Fundraising > Designations.
- Locate the designation and click the ellipsis menu > Archive.
To restore a designation, click the ellipsis menu > Unarchive.
