The Giving Form Builder

Build and customize giving experiences across forms, pages, and receipts.

A Brief Summary

iDonate provides a flexible Giving Form Builder designed to help organizations tailor the giving experience to their needs. The builder allows you to customize and rearrange each component, or element, within a giving form to create an experience that aligns with your goals and branding.

Customization extends beyond the giving form itself. You can also control the appearance and content of the confirmation page, donation receipt, and hosted page, ensuring a consistent experience throughout the donor journey.

In addition to visual customization, the Giving Form Builder supports A/B testing, allowing you to compare variations and understand how different configurations impact donor behavior.

The Element Library

The Element Library is the primary framework for building and customizing a giving form. It contains all available form components and the controls used to configure how donors experience the giving process.

Each element represents a distinct part of the donation journey, such as how donors select gift amounts, choose recurring options, provide personal information, or engage with additional content. Elements can be enabled, arranged, and customized to match your organization’s goals, branding, and data collection needs.

Some elements focus on donation mechanics, including gift amounts, payment methods, recurring frequency, and designations. Others support communication and engagement, such as impact messaging, opt-in preferences, corporate matching prompts, and custom content blocks. Additional elements allow you to collect structured donor information through configurable fields that integrate directly into transaction data.

Together, these elements give you fine-grained control over both the functional and experiential aspects of the giving form, allowing you to create a donor experience that is intentional, flexible, and aligned with how your organization fundraises.

The Ellipsis Menu

Next to the name of each giving form is an ellipsis (...) menu that provides quick access to additional configuration and management options.

From this menu, you can:

  1. Get Embed Code: Get the code needed to embed the giving form on an external website.
  2. Duplicate Form: Create a copy of the giving form with the same configuration.
  3. Save as Template: Save the form as a reusable template for future forms.
  4. Reference Code: View or manage reference codes associated with the form.
  5. Redirect URL: Configure where donors are redirected after completing a donation.
  6. Update Hosted Page Details: Edit settings related to the iDonate hosted page experience.

The Editor Toolbar

Above the Giving Form Builder is a row of icons:

These will bring up the following interfaces:

  1. Element Library: Opens the interface used to add, arrange, and configure form elements.
  2. Look & Feel: Controls visual settings such as primary colors, fonts, and page layout.
  3. Custom CSS: Allows advanced styling through custom CSS rules. See here for more details.
  4. Preview: Displays a live preview of how the form will appear to donors.

The Confirmation Page

The Confirmation Page is the first page donors see after completing a donation. It serves as the transition point between giving and follow-up, reinforcing the donor’s action while providing next steps and additional engagement opportunities.

Like the Giving Form, the Confirmation Page is built using configurable elements. Its Element Library is more focused, designed specifically for acknowledgment, messaging, and post-donation actions rather than data collection.

Elements on the Confirmation Page allow you to present a clear confirmation message, communicate gratitude or impact, invite donors to create a Donor Self-Service account for future giving, and surface corporate matching opportunities when applicable. If a donation already includes corporate matching, relevant details and next steps are displayed. If not, donors may be prompted to check their eligibility.

The Receipt

The receipt is emailed to the donor after a donation is completed and serves as the official record of the gift. Like the Giving Form and Confirmation Page, the receipt supports extensive customization so the message and presentation align with your organization’s voice and branding.

Receipt elements allow you to define the initial message donors see when opening the email, include custom content such as text, images, and merge tags, and set the email subject line that appears in the donor’s inbox.

The receipt must be configured before a giving form can be published.

The Hosted Page

The Hosted Page is an iDonate hosted webpage that displays a giving form alongside supporting content. It provides organizations with a complete donation experience without requiring separate external hosting.

By using a Hosted Page, organizations can present a giving form together with contextual information, messaging, and progress indicators in a single, cohesive view.

Hosted Page elements allow you to shape the full page experience, including introductory messaging, custom text and images, progress toward a campaign or form goal, and closing content.

Together, these components make it easier to deliver a polished, informative giving experience directly through iDonate.
